Inside the Mind of a Top Affiliate – Choosing a Bonus

By Steven Wagenheim

In this installment of my inside the mind of a top affiliate series, I’m going to show you my thinking process when it comes to choosing a bonus to offer with the product that I’m selling as an affiliate. This is a step that a lot of marketers get wrong because they don’t really put the thought into it. Hopefully, after reading this, you’ll be able to pick just the right bonus for that affiliate product you’re promoting.

It is absolutely critical that you FIRST understand the product that you’re promoting inside and out. You need to be able to identify its strengths as well as its weaknesses. No product is 100%, especially a digital information product. There is always something that has either been left out or could have been explained a little bit better. This is where you have to make notes to yourself.

After you’ve gone through the product, the next step is to look through your bonuses to see which one best compliments the product. This is where most affiliates make their biggest mistake. They figure that any old product, as long as it has value, will be good enough to offer in order to get the prospect to buy the initial product. For example, somebody selling a book on SEO might offer a book on article marketing as a bonus. Now, while the book on article marketing has value in its own right, it really doesn’t fit with the book on SEO. What if the person has no interest in learning article marketing?

However, what if you had a piece of software that made the SEO process a lot easier? Now THAT would be a bonus that would really get the prospect excited about getting the book on SEO. Heck, for that matter, they prospect may want the software more than the book and only buy the book to get the software. It happens more than you know. Look at some of the biggest product launches. Many prospects buy from the person who offers the best bonus.

This is the process I go through whenever I think of a bonus to offer with the product I’m selling. If you simply take the time to go through this same process, you’ll find that you’ll sell more of that product than you did previously.

Top Ten Mistakes to Avoid As You Become an Affiliate Marketer

By Linda A Green

Making mistakes when you become an affiliate marketer is a common occurrence. Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to earn extra cash online but still needs a plan of action to avoid making the following mistakes:

1. Not making a plan of action:

Spend some time before actually starting your business deciding what products you are going to promote and how you will promote them. You should also decide at this point whether you will have a website or not. It is possible to become an affiliate marketer without a website although is easier to promote several products or more from your own website.

2. Not doing market research:

It is no good having a wonderful product that nobody wants or needs. Research the Internet and look at the products that people are buying and the niche or area that is selling well.

3. Not building a list:

All we ever hear about is the list! But it really is the way to consistently make money. If someone makes a purchase from you they will then leave the site and may never return unless you have captured their name and email address. You can do this by offering free subscription to a newsletter or giving away an eBook. All you want in return is their name and email so you can send follow up emails or special offers that may be of interest. Because the customer has given you their details it isn’t spamming, which should be avoided at all costs.

4. Which brings me to ’spamming’:

Never send emails to someone without their permission first. As well as being really annoying and giving you a bad name, the recipient may well report you.

5. Don’t use free hosting accounts. The websites are not original and can look unprofessional. You will have a better looking website and receive a better service when you pay for hosting which can cost as little as $10 a month.

6. Overusing pop-ups:

Pop-ups have their place in affiliate marketing but when you are hit by thousands it is just plain annoying! When you become an affiliate marketer you want to encourage people to stay on your website, get to know you and your products, build trust. When your visitor is hit by more than one pop-up they will leave without browsing or buying.

7. Having broken links on your website:

Make sure all your links are working and open in a separate window. When you receive a visitor don’t then proceed to send them to another website through another link. By opening in a separate window you will keep them. If your links don’t work you will probably lose the visitor and seem unprofessional. Check at least once a week.

8. Trying to sell everything to reach all people:

There are millions of people buying from the Internet every day so you only need to target a small section to make a handsome profit. Concentrate your products around one niche, preferably one that you have some knowledge and interest in. Having a large range of products all from different topics on your site will be confusing to your visitors and may even brand you as a jack of all trades rather than someone knowledgeable in one area to be trusted.

9. Consistency:

Market your website gradually. It is no good building a fabulous site and putting an advertising campaign in place and expecting loads of sales immediately. Building a reputation and marketing campaign can take time and patience. Be consistent in your actions and market your products using a daily blog, write and submit articles on a weekly basis. The traffic will arrive and when it does it will be targeted traffic interested in your products.

10. Never give up:

When you become an affiliate marketer don’t expect to get rich overnight. Although it is one of the easier options to earn extra cash online it will still take hard work, consistent actions and patience to make money.

Finding Good Affiliate Marketing and Newsletter For Your Business

By Marion Pollan

Did you know that an average individual would need to see a product at least seven times before deciding to buy it? In other words, you as an affiliate will have to show the person your product so many times before they can decide to purchase it. A great way to get them to see your product would be through a newsletter. The reason that newsletters work better than random emails because the individual has to sign up for the newsletter and this way you are not sending them spam. Hence, they will pay attention to what you have to say.

You can take their email addresses when they visit your website and then you can make them come back through your newsletter. You can keep repeating your product offer in the newsletter. If they seem not interested in the product that you are offering them then you can offer them some other of your products. Soon enough, they will begin to purchase and you will begin to get the commission.

Your newsletter is the only point of contact that you have after the person leaves your website. You can use it to create a relationship with your prospect. The logic is simple enough. Anybody is more likely to purchase from someone they know instead of a complete stranger. You can build your name and reputation in their eyes through your newsletter. You can do this by including informative content in your newsletter, useful articles on relevant subjects and such other stuff.

Use the correct tools when you are running a newsletter. Avoid using tools such as Microsoft Outlook. You can commit serious mistakes such as sending too many emails in one go and this can cause your web host to shut you down. Besides that, it can also be quite time consuming and tedious. Instead of that, you can use aweber or any other similar auto responder service. This way you can create forms for signing up on your website. The service adds or removes subscribers automatically and you can set up the schedule as to when you want the messages to go. You can schedule your messages that are not time sensitive.

For example, you can set up the newsletter for the first message and the second and so on. Then, you can of course send newsletters that offer specific holiday promotions or such offers. You can offer your newsletter for free when they sign up at your website. If they find interesting content on your website then they will surely like to receive your newsletter. The newsletter will help you stay in touch with your prospect and you will soon see the results.

Is Affiliate Marketing Your Key to Success?

By Debbie Grant

Are you just getting started with your internet marketing career? If you are, then affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to go.  But, how do you get started making money with this method?

If you are totally new to internet marketing, then it can be quite confusing trying to figure out which method will get you up and running the fastest without emptying your bank account. The good news is that as long as you have a connection to the internet, you have everything you need.

People choose to get started with affiliate marketing for many reasons — to make extra payments on bills, to take a dream vacation, to augment their retirement or to quit their day job. Your reasons may be unique to you, but you can use some of the same methods as every one else to get started. In fact, it will work to your advantage to follow a proven plan.

So, let’s get back to the question of how to get started making money. My advice: start with the Bum Marketing Method.

What’s that you say?  It’s a way to sell products based on a marketing method popularized by Travis Sago, a very successful internet marketer. Travis says that anyone, even a flat-broke bum, can sit down in front of a computer and start making money in a matter of days.

I know. It sounds too good to be true but, believe it or not, it really does work!

Following the bum’s way to get started really just means that you learn how to make money without it costing you anything. In other words, use free methods to market your products. This is an excellent way to get your feet wet, especially if you’re not sure that affiliate marketing is for you or you’re just not willing to risk a lot of money.
